If you’re planning to host a devilishly good get-together with family and friends to celebrate 31st October, you’ll need some deliciously easy recipe ideas to spook your guests… so why not try some of my favourite tasty Halloween party food recipes I make in my home? These scary treats will give you the perfect excuse to celebrate in style. I’ve even got a few food prep and cooking tricks up my sleeve for you, too. So, enjoy rustling up these flavoursome bites with ease in the comfort of your kitchen:

Spooky sausage mummies

If you’re looking for a crowd, I find this mummy dogs recipe is not only simple and fun to make, but it’s also a great way in which to add this classic spooky dish to your Halloween repertoire. You may already know I’m vegetarian so I use veggie sausages for mine and I find Richmond are particularly tasty. You can, of course, choose vegetarian hot dogs and meat versions if you prefer a ‘skinny’ look – the choice is yours!

To create this Halloween party food, all you really need to do is wrap your sausages in thinly sliced dough from a ready-rolled puff pastry sheet and add soft cheese and tiny chunks from an olive for the eyes at the end. I must confess I tend to use redcurrants for my mummy dogs’ eyes for an alternative fruity treat and red eyes look more evil too! Don’t forget to add a side dish of blood (tomato ketchup!) for dipping purposes. Any why not try piping a mustard-made web on top of this for a more spooktacular finish? Don’t forget to use dabs of ketchup to help stick the redcurrant eyes to the mummies before serving. I use a baking sheet before I put the sausages in the oven too, to make sure they won’t stick.

Devilled eggs Halloween party food

I’m already a big fan of cooking Queen Nigella’s devilled eggs recipe. So, I simply add my own variation to make it fit Halloween party food. If you can’t be bothered with the faff of filling a piping bag and using a star nozzle, then don’t! I tend to use two teaspoons to spoon my mixture into each egg, sometimes top with paprika then add the spiders on top.

What I really love about these devilled eggs is that you can make them the day before your party. All you have to do is keep them refrigerated in an airtight container then add the paprika and spiders just before serving. Making the spiders is really easy to do – use one half of an olive for the body then thinly slice the other half to make each spider’s legs. Don’t forget to add four legs to each side.

Halloween Carrot Cupcakes

I haven’t tried this recipe yet, but I’m going to and I couldn’t resist sharing Halloween Carrot Cupcakes with you! Although the prep time is rather long (50 minutes), I’m promised it’s an easy recipe to recreate at home. I can’t wait to have a go at this – just look at those gravestones! All you need to do is spoon over black royal icing on rich tea biscuits, leaving a small gap at the bottom for you to hold each one. Once they have set, you can write anything you like on yours. I also love the little pumpkins – they look so adorable and you can make these from sugar paste. I love making cupcakes – do you remember the little sheep I made for Easter?

This Halloween party food recipe is from British author, baker and TV cook Juliet Sear and you may have seen her on ITV’s This Morning. I hear you can make 16 of these little beauties using Carr’s Carrot Cake Mix. But you’re advised to make the gravestones and pumpkins a few hours before you make the cupcakes to ensure you won’t damage then when you’re pushing them into the frosting.

Meringue ghosts

If you’re looking for the perfect treat this Halloween, why not try making some meringue ghosts? They’re incredibly cute and you can make a whole batch of them for trick-or-treaters, to serve to your party guests or to add to a festive cake for a decorative finish. I tend to use a little melted dark chocolate to create my faces but you could instead use an edible food writing pen as suggested in this recipe.

Make sure you use an electric mixer for this Halloween party food recipe or your arms may drop off! But, a few words of advice – you don’t want to over-whisk the egg whites. I like using pumpkin spice flavouring as it adds to the authenticity of these sweet scary treats. Baking takes a while (around 45 mins) and don’t forget to wait for them to cool completely before you add each spooky face.

Halloween pumpkins

Halloween party food with fruit

If time is of the essence and you want to throw something together in super-quick speed for your Halloween party, you can’t go wrong with these fruit monsters. This is also a great way in which to add something a little more healthy to your party platters.

These fruit monsters are so easy to create and I think they look pretty cute, too. I prefer to use pears and figs for my healthy Halloween party food – you just need to make a mouth shape in the pears and figs by cutting into each piece of fruit at an angle with a knife. Then use the remaining fig pieces for tongues and some raisins for teeth in the pears. I use candy eyes because they’re pre-made and they’re really easy to stick on with edible glue (use this to keep the raisins in place, too), which you can pick up from your supermarket.

If this fruit doesn’t float your boat, you could try working with apples instead. Simply cut one all the way across horizontally and add some small chunks of marshmallows in-between the front half to create teeth. Then stick on your candy eyes with the edible glue. Easy-peasy!
